Club-Mini Farm

Raising Quality Dilute Miniature Horses

This page is dedicated to Sammi.

Our intention for creating this page is to educate on Dwarfism and show Sammi's struggles as well as his "good days" of living as a dwarf.

Let me start off by saying that Sammi is not for sale nor will he ever be. He will be castrated once he is old enough and never breed. We believe that breeding for a respectable size is one thing, but breeding for size to the point of dwarfism is another. Although we have only had the pleasure of having Sammi only a few days, we have set our priorities in order. We have never, nor will we ever breed for size. Sammi has taught us a few things already :)  We believe that the conformation, personality, and health of a horse exceeds the benefits and profits of breeding for size - dwarfism isn't "cute", its a horrible and painful disease.

I will do my best to update this page often.

We have been wrapping Sammi's hoofs as shown in the pictures above, from the moment he arrived on our farm. Poor Sammi's confirmation is just awful, but we tried to correct him with the help of our vet and farrier. When the special materials finally arrived to make little platforms for Sammi's hooves, we got with the vet and farrier and attempted to create little shoes for him. With frequent trimming and new shoes every week or so, we tried very hard to correct his feet. Although Sammi has made lots of progress so far, he still has a long road ahead of him. Some pictures below show one of the many attempts with the vet and farrier by our side. Sammi is laying on the table being monitored by our vet Dr. Beretta as he is under anasthesia. These are just some of the struggles that Sammi will face in his short life.

Update: 9/17/09

Thank you all for your very kind words and a special than you to all of Sammi's visitors!

Sammi is doing great and still has his magic shoes on. I believe that Sammi will be wearing his shoes for at least another year or so. He knows he's special and is excited everytime he gets a visitor! He has so much love to give! I will be updating with more pictures soon!

A special note from Sammi:
I want to thank my own very special farrier for giving me extra love every time he comes up to trim my feet :)
Also, I  will soon have a buddy!
Little Mac from Michigan who was also born with dwarfism and has conformational issues will be coming down to live with me in a few weeks.
Mom is going all the way up there to get him and bring him home so she can fix his feet too!
I am soooo excited! I can't wait to have a brother! Thanks mom! Smoochies!
